Night of Museums
Published on Tuesday, 12 May 2015 in Museums & Expos - Hôtel des Métallos
We have selected a few good spots for you to enjoy this event and make the most of the night. Some are actually kid friendly if you are going out as a family.
Follow the guide:
Start early by visiting the Musée de la vie Romantique where you will appreciate the permanent collection of painter Ary Scheffer as well as some major works from contemporary artists from the 19th century.
As the evening begins, take some time to visit Auguste Comte’s apartment, located at 10 rue Monsieur le Prince, in the 6th arrondissement. The visit of the philosopher’s office is a like a trip back in time if you want to know what a typical Parisian apartment looked like some 200 years ago.
Come at the Palais de Tokyo as a family and make sure you arrive well before 6pm in order to benefit from one of the guided tours offered to the public. Tailored for kids from 5 to 10, the visit will give them access to modern art. Parents and children alike will appreciate all the different activities and shows programmed for this special event.
Another great way to entertain your kids, if they are curious to learn, is to take them to Musée des Arts et Métiers which will let them experiment with lights, lasers and other scientific instruments. The light will be at the core of this evening with many different activities and shows planned for the Night of Museums.
Provided that you do not mind the crowds and if you are after saving on the cost of the usually fairly expensive entrance to Musée Galliera, benefit from that night’s event to visit the Jeanne Lanvin exhibition.
Later on at night, after night’s fall, we recommend that you take the time to visit the fascinating exhibition Les Grands Singes (great monkeys) at the Grande Galerie de l’Evolution in the Jardin des Plantes. Once again, the kids will be thrilled by the fun and interactive experience.
A different option if you are on the left bank is to benefit from the free visit offered at the Hôtel des Invalides. While the lights at night are magical, the collections of the Army Museum and the Tomb of Napoléon Bonaparte are just a small subset of the potential of this place. Specially on the Night of Museums, there will be musketeers in costumes fighting with swords and pistols but also different activities and guided tours.
Entirely refurbished not long ago, the Picasso Museum will feature some great light shows and various interactive displays to celebrate this year’s edition. The show, jointly prepared with Artistic school of Les Gobelins is sure to bring the architecture and the collection of this world renown landmark to a whole fdifferent level.
During the evening, the Parisian street artist, Nebay, will perform a live rendering of a graffiti, staged in the Pinacothèque patio. A great excuse to come and visit the current exhibition, Le Pressionnisme, dedicated to street art and graffiti artists like Basquia or Bando.
To end this Night of the Museums, head toward the Musée du Luxembourg which will stay open a bit later until 1am. You will be able to visit the Tudors exhibition in a different light and the students from the La Source high school will present a range of costumes in order to give life to the classical characters of the British Renaissance.
